K-4 KIDS FIRST SUMMER PROGRAMS
Literacy
Summer LitCamp incorporates literacy skills, engagement skills, in addition to social-emotional development and EL support. The program combines research-based reading and writing lessons with an interactive approach, providing an authentic, meaningful experience with reading and writing for our literacy learners.
Math
Our Summer Success program is intended to reinforce and complement the grade level standards and math skills taught throughout the school year to prevent summer learning loss. It is designed to meet the needs of all students. The real-world problem solving is Common Core- aligned and motivational for students.

Grades 5-7 KIDS FIRST SUMMER PROGRAMS
New Haven SOARS is a wonderful STEM camp for students currently in grades 5-7. In this program, students learn literacy skills through digital media production, math through computer gaming, engineering through problem-based learning, and team building skills through recreational projects. The program is in its 10th year. Fun and learning always prevail. Please get the application at your student’s school.

SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL RECOVERY PROGRAM
Purpose:
Credit Recovery Summer courses are designed to provide students the instructional content and hours needed for most subject(s) that they received failing grades. Skills development, learning strategies, content strand mastery, and holistic applications are prioritized in order to enhance continuous progress.
THIS SUMMER PROGRAM IS ONLY FOR COURSE FAILURE – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Eligibility:
Students enrolled in grades 9-12 who wish to repeat courses for which failing grades were received. Students may receive one full credit in one of the offered subject areas. Admission is granted on a first come, first served basis. Credits earned for summer courses will be awarded pending appropriate attendance and achievement (see attendance policy).
WHEN:
Mondays through Fridays beginning on July 5, 2018 and ending on August 1, 2018.
First period will begin at 8:15 A.M. and end at 10:15 A.M. Second period will begin at 10:30 A.M. and end at 12:30 P.M. Two or more absences will result in credit being denied. Two days marked Tardy results in ONE absence. In the event of course failure, no credit will be earned.

YouthStat Career Tech Summer Academy
This program services up to 100 high needs students who are typically identified as over-age under credit; disengaged from school with attendance, behavior and academic concerns, and are in need of remediation in language arts, literacy, and/or math.
The Career TECH Summer Academy will allow students a full immersion program of industry-standard credentials that will lead to a technical skills area qualifying students for livable wage careers. Students that successfully complete the Summer Academy will receive New Haven Board of Education credits toward graduation, job shadowing experiences, internships, post-secondary education options as well as possible employment/apprenticeship opportunities.
Students who successfully complete this summer academy will qualify for a seat in the Career Tech Collaborative at Eli Whitney and/or referral to New Haven Job Funnel and New Haven Works.
All students participate in tutoring Math and English Language Arts. In addition the Chief of YFCE and Center for Justice Education center our contracting partner meetings with the literacy and math department leaders to review program components and ensure that the academic component of the program is aligned with district standards. Furthermore the team engages with the school counselors department to ensure the academic program meets the standards for NHPS credit retrieval.
Leadership Program for Girls Cheer and Dance Camp
This program serves 50-100 students between the ages of 5-14. Students will learn the fundamentals of cheer while participating in recreational physical fitness and SEL support through mentoring, coaching, and grooming leadership directed towards females and socially-relevant and subject-related content. The goal of the program is to use the sport of Cheerleading to academically and socially develop female students who may be at risk for drop-out. The principles of cheerleading include dance, cheer, stunting and gymnastics. Mastery of these principles requires discipline, study, practice and commitment. The lessons will link the academic components of spatial relationships, writing, This program serves 50-100 students between the ages of 5-14. Sullivan Basketball Camp
This program services 300 to 350 students ages 6 to 14, providing them with educational and recreational academics throughout the day. All participating students are expected to participate in the tutorial program. Academically, this program supports the reduction in summer slide... Boy Scouts of America
This Program is a nationally-developed STEM curriculum to 50 children in New Haven. Participation is once a week for five weeks. Each session will be 60 minutes.
Outdoor adventure is the promise made to boys when they join Scouting.
Service to others and good citizenship is learned through such outdoor activities as conservation projects, collecting food, building trails and shelters, and conducting community service projects that promote healthy living. Through helping other people, Scouts learn to appreciate how they can share themselves and their blessings to those in need. By giving service to benefit others, Scouts gain a sense of personal satisfaction.
The STEM summer program will feature over 32 science experiments around the themes of chemistry, engineering, robotics, gravity and squishy, gooey fun (Examples of the actual experiments the students will participate in are: Exothermic Volcanoes, Soda Geyser Reactions, Firework T shirts, Design a Parachute – Gravity, Alka Seltzer Rockets, Evaporative Cooling Games, Rover- Programming and coding, Blood Typing, Forensics, Marble Run - Gravity and Physics). The curriculum focuses almost exclusively on hands-on science experiments with adequate time to answer critical thinking questions of "why" or "how."

The Hot Shot Basketball Camp
The Hot Shot Camp provides a safe and fun environment for kids during the summer. The kids learn the fundamentals of basketball and participate in reading and writing enrichment programs.
All participating students are expected to participate in the reading and writing program. Academically, this program supports the continuum of education during the summer months.
