Director, Typhanie Jackson oversees the staff of the Student Services Department, Homebound Instruction,Non-Public Schools and Out of District Placements.
Behavioral Supports
Teams may complete Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) as required by a student's present level of documented performance. Teams and staff may be supported by Institute for Professional Practice (IPP).
Charter Schools
The New Haven Public Schools Student Service team works in partnership with the district charter school staff to facilitate child find for student suspected of having a disability and provide a continuum of services to identified student at the charter school sites.
Homebound Instruction
Homebound is provided to students in New Haven School District based on inability to access school. It is supported by appropriate documentation and approval of the Director.
Non-Public Schools
New Haven Public Schools Student Service team facilitates the child find process, for students suspected of having a disability, placed in private schools within the district. The district staff follows the consultation model of service delivery to ensure that parentally placed private school children with disabilities identified through child find process can meaningfully participate in special education and related services. Elissa Tirozzi is the coordinator of this program.
Out of District Placements
Out of District Placements occur if a student requires support not available through the New Haven Public Schools and recommended by the PPT.
School to Work Programs and Off Campus Classrooms
School to Work Programs and Off Campus Classrooms provide students with disabilities employment skills and work experiences. Mark Caruso is the coordinator of this program.
